AABCC/District 11 Invitational
Boys' Results
Senior Kyle Richards in the first 5K of the season, went to the top of the Rebels All-Time List with a school record setting 16:36.9. Breaking a record that has stood for 13 seasons, Kyle took charge of the race early setting a strong pace that only the #1 runners from Coon Rapids and Andover could match. Richards placed 2nd overall, and was the #1 runner for CP.

Girls' Results
Steph Sjostrom, Katie Batters and Mari Schlitter led the way for the Rebels as the teams #1, 2 and #3 runners in the first 4K of the season. Captain Mari, set an all-time "PR" in the first 4K of her senior season.

Great job to the entire team! We've had an exceptional week of running, no doubt your legs are tired. Now, as in today is the time to take care of the little things that make a good athlete great. Ice your legs (a cold soak in the tub is good also), 9 hours of sleep...YES, 9 hours of sleep, and if at all possible cut down on the week night hours at work.

Summer Cross Country Training

Summer running is the key to success, not only for you individually but for the team as a whole. The idea is to build on the foundation you've established already, be it from spring track, lacrosse or softball. You as runners will see improvement, whether it's comparing where you where last year, or just last week.
Simple ideas to make it a good summer of running...
1. Make sure you have a new pair of running shoes. Seek out Wendi at GearWest for a fitting if you haven't done so already.
2. Be hydrated. See the article in a prior posting.
3. Fuel the engine. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains and pasta. See article in prior posting.
4. Sleep...yes sleep. Yes, it's summer but like most high schoolers you'll still need that 8 to 10 hours of sleep .
5. Running with friends and teammates. Check out our summer running schedule. The captains have got it covered Monday thru Friday. It's always more fun in a group.
6. Set a Goal. Make State, All-Conference, the top 7, the Griak, improve your times on the same courses as last year. Think about these as just a sample, write down your own personal goals and tape them to a spot in your room.
Get in the habit now...you have three more weeks before the season starts...Make it a Good One!

Thursday Summer Practices

Steph and I were talking about the upcoming summer practices and she was wondering about where people would park when we meet at the end of 109th. Some of us will be biking but I think the road is blocked off a bit so you won't be able to park at the end of the road like last year. What you could do though is park at the Jerry Repelius parking lot and then just walk down to the round-about. I just thought I'd let people know before they get there! See you all soon!

Deborah Dickson, 3rd in the 800,. Melissa Denler, 3rd in the 100 Hurdles, Anna Broadrick's 1st in the Pole Vault, Katherine Burton, 3rd in the pole vault, Morgan Loth 3rd in the long jump and BrieAnna Stewart 3rd in the shot put.

Just a bit windy at the Elk River Triangular

Hitting the western outskirts of Elk River this past Tuesday was a little like running thru the windy plains of Oklahoma, not an easy task. With wind gusts hitting 20 to 30 mph, the Rebels took on Elk River and Coon Rapids for a NWSC Coed Triangular. With the exception of our buses arriving late at the stadium, which led to an abbreviated warm-up for the 4 x 8's, CP fared rather well.

It's Minnesota...weather is fickle!

Tuesday's dual against Anoka became a battle of athletes versus weather, as the temps dropped to a lovely 30+ degrees. CP distance runners, sprinters and hurdlers excelled in what had most spectators shivering. Rebels were victorious in the 1600 meters with Eleanor Magnuson grabbing the lead off of teammate Steph Sjostrom (who lead all of 1500 meters of the race). In the 800, Madison Sawyer captured first place with a seasonal best. In the boy's 800 Derrion Hill raced to a 2:12 time sprinting past 5 Anoka runners in the last 100 meters. Senior Dan Nelson finished third with his first 1600 meter race of the season.
In virtually each heat of the the 400 meters CP athletes victorious (results not available at this writing).

Rebel Relays this Saturday!

This week in Rebel Track & Field finds us competing at the UM Fieldhouse in the newly renamed Rebel Relays. The Relays meet followed Coach Moorhead over to his new home, that of coaching the CP Distance Teams for the 2008 season. Five teams will join CP in the competition, they are; Armstrong, Apple Valley, Chaska Totino Grace and Wayzata. Wayzata boys' and girls' are the defending champions from the 2007 event. The meet will begin at 12:15 with the running of the JV 1600 followed by heats of the 200 meters. The Varsity portion of the meet will begin at 1:00 with the Distance Medley and all Field Events. Not your typical track meet, all events are scored as relays. In the field events, Shot Put as an example, four throwers for each team will compete in shot put with their best throws added up for their respective team score. Over the past 14 years several Minnesota All-Time Indoor Bests have been set at the Rebel Relays.
Rebel Field Event Showcase Meet
Opening the week (Monday, March 31st), is the Field Event meet. The event will be contested at the CP Fieldhouse . The event was created to give the athletes an opportunity to test themselves in field events, with the idea that many just might find they have the athletic ability to be successful in jumping or throwing as well as on the track. The meet gets underway at 3:45.

UM ROTC Indoor this Weekend!

A sure fire way to get pumped for this years indoor and outdoor track season is to take in this weekends UM ROTC Meet. The meet starts at 9:30 and is typically a good indicator of what individuals trained during the off season. With this being Easter Weekend it should be interesting as to who actually shows up. If you're thinking of heading over to the U to catch the meet, parking
is available on 4th Street and also on University at the Alumni Parking ramp just east of the UM Fieldhouse. Note, the reason we are not competing is obvious...we're on break!
Have a safe and happy Easter Weekend!
